I don't have any suggestions for Lauren regarding the lack of ped
facilities across Ken Pratt Blvd at Hover other than to bring the matter
up with the city Transportation Advisory Board and maybe contact
Colorado Walks for their suggestions. That intersection was obviously
designed for the convenience of motorists over any other use.
I haven't heard about these collisions Lauren mentioned; were these
reported in the Times-Call or Daily-Camera? Postings to this list about
details of these accidents would be good so we can recognize the
potential hazards that exist in Longmont and also to gather data to
decide on actions to take. For example, sidewalk riding is very common
in Longmont -- does collision data support the idea that cyclists need
to be educated about the hazards to watch for in sidewalk riding?
Similarly, does actual collision data show that wrong-way riding is
dangerous, and can this information be used in cyclist education in
Longmont?
I ride to church up Gay Street to 6th Avenue just about every Wednesday.
While riding one dark night I nearly rear-ended a stealth cyclist
without lights or reflectors. I imagine somebody probably ran the stop
sign at Gay & 5th in the collision that Lauren is referring to. I'd be
interested in knowing what the police response was (who was ticketed and
for what reason, etc).
