Richard - The Phase 6 portion of the St Vrain Greenway east of Main Sreet
is currently scheduled for completion on September 2nd, but that depends on
weather and other construction issues. Once we're certain of a date, we'll
be scheduling a grand opening ceremony that will be announced in the
newspaper. I'll do my best to alert BikeLongmont too. The bridge just
east of Pratt Parkway is currently open, which completes the off-road trail
from Golden Ponds to Main Street.
People on the trails during construction is an on-going problem. As soon
as our contractors put up the barricades, folks rip them down to get past.
This problem indirectly affects the project, as it takes valuable
contractor time to keep setting the barricades back up - time that they
could otherwise be working on the project. Cooperation between trail users
would be helpful. If you see a barricade pulled down, feel free to prop it
back up as you are turning around.
Future planning for the St Vrain Greenway is currently targeted as follows:
Phase 7 (from Left Hand Creek to County Line Road) will start design late
this year, start construction in mid-2005, and planned to be complete by
the end of 2005.
Phase 8 (from County Line Road to Sandstone Ranch) will start design late
in 2005, with construction slated for 2006.
Funding for the St Vrain project is through the conservation trust fund
from the state lottery. That fund is currently healthy and there is no
reason to see this schedule change due to funding. OF course neither phase
7 nor 8 have been designed yet. We may run into engineering issues or
coordination issues with the railroad or gravel mining companies that
affect these targeted dates.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks - Steve

Hi Nenad,
Something to consider is a press release to the
Times-Call, the Camera, and a couple of the other
local papers (Berthoud Surveyor, Yellow Scene, etc)
about this survey.
I have a question for Steve or somebody in Public
Works: Is there an update on planned opening of the
St. Vrain trail extension?
I saw some prominent "Keep Out" signs on this
extension, and I've seen people -- including families
with kids -- use the new paths in spite of barricades.
Is this unauthorized use slowing the work and/or
adding to the city's costs? Should I admonish these
scofflaws as I beat them over their helmeted heads
with "LiveSTRONG" bracelets?
The St. Vrain plan calls for the path to extend to
Sandstone Ranch in 2005, with planning for this
occurring right now, but I realize some of this has
been delayed because of lower-than-expected revenues.
Will we have a path to Sandstone next year?
Buzz: Has there been any response from Mary about bike
transport that we asked regarding FasTracks?
