[BikeLongmont] August meeting minutes

We had a small but good meeting this month.

First about scheduling. Both Buzz and I will be out of town for the
September meeting. We are thinking of skipping the September meeting.
The conference room has been reserved, so we can hold the meeting if the
group feels it is necessary.

We have also agreed to propose moving the monthly meeting from Wednesday
to Tuesday. This would work better for some regular attendees and also
not interfere with the Wednesday rides. Let me know your thoughts - if
there are no objections, we'll switch to a second Tuesday of each month
starting in October.

Our fund drive has yielded $140 from five donations so far. We went to
the bank today (I was out of town for more than two weeks) to open an
account and found out that we need a couple of legal documents before we
can open an account. We'll be cracking on them, but one involves getting
a tax ID number from the federal government, so it might take us a
little bit to get there.

I want to thank the people who wrote us checks and apologize for not
cashing them yet - I know waiting messes up everyone's accounting.
Please rest assured that we will do it as quickly as we can!

The other big piece of news is that the new Longmont maps are available
- you've seen a message about that earlier today. We were talking to Len
about getting the PDF posted on the City's website. This would enable
everyone to zoom in on the area the want to look and print in many
different ways, unlike today's map, which is just an image.

The reason for delay is that this is the first electronic version and it
took a while to get it all input into the system. Further iterations
should be easier. City might also update PDF more often, assuming there
are enough changes to make it worthwhile.

In other news, Weld CO road 1 is about to be overlaid. It will not be
widened (i.e., no bike lanes), because there is a serious widening on
the drawing board and the current overlay is just two inches to fix the
surface. The City has been begging Weld County to add bike lanes, but to
no avail - they feel it would be a waste of money since there will be a
'real" widening project in (hopefully) not too distant future.

In town, Sunset south of Ken Pratt is being prepared for overlaying.
Striping is also being refreshed throughout the town and there is a
major striping project upcoming on Olympia.

Bike lanes will also be added on Colyer (north of the new roundabout).
City is experimenting with narrower driving lanes, which would let more
streets have bike lanes.

Regards, Nenad
...your friendly Bicycle Longmont coordinator...
