[BikeLongmont] Velodrome meeting

Hi Richard ...

Yes the CU connection is important. Maybe more so is that one of the
investors owns the Bridge school and the land there.

I think they at least deserve a shot at getting the project approved at that
location, but I give it at most a 50/50 chance there. It would definitely
be the biggest structure in the area and would change the character of the
neighborhood.

It wasn't discussed at the meeting, but the feeling I have is that the
proposed design would not really support large scale racing events at the
Velodrome (like a national track championship, etc) where you would have
hundreds or even a couple thousand spectators. Don't think they are
providing that kind of seating and parking. If they did so, that would
probably decrease their chances of getting approval by the county due to
heavier traffic, bigger parking lots, etc. From a cyclist's perspective,
that is perhaps the biggest detriment to that location. I would much rather
see it located where there is less restriction on land use and where they
could host large scale events. County ownership would be preferable, but
not likely with the present budget constraints.

If there continues to be interest in Longmont, we can speak to the
developers as their plans progress. If they get bad vibes on approval from
the County, perhaps they would be willing to consider other locations.

          ... Craig
