ACTION NEEDED- Colorado Safe Routes to School Bill
February 24, 2004
www.bicyclecolorado.org/for/saferoutes
Colorado Safe Routes to School (House Bill 04-1309 Brophy) will be voted on
by the House Appropriations Committee on Friday, February 27.
HOW YOU CAN HELP SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL
The only way for your elected representatives to hear that citizens want a
program to protect children's safety and improve health is to contact the
Committee via telephone and email, since public testimony is not allowed at
the Appropriations Committee.
CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVE IF YOU LIVE IN THESE DISTRICTS
- Call or email your Representative (list below) by Thursday afternoon
- Ask them to vote in support of House Bill 04-1309, Safe Routes to School
- Please provide your name and address so your input will count
- Share this request with neighbors in your district
TALKING POINTS
* The bill doesnot increase taxes; it simply directs a portion existing
federal safety funds the state already receives to safe walking and biking
around schools.
* Colorado needs this program since 60% of children used to bike and walk
to school, now less than 6% bike and 8% walk.
An affirmative vote in this committee is a huge step and we need the
support from people around the state. Take just two minutes of your time to
call or email--it is magnified to our Representatives. They need to know
what you think.
Thank you for your help!
