ITEM 1: Letter To The Editor, 7/9/2004 _Times-Call_
A letter from Carl A. Ribbing III describes the
benefits from cycling, including the benefits cycling
has as a mode of transportation as well as the health
benefits of cycling. He complains about the lack of
off-street facilities in Longmont, comparing Longmont
to the path system that Denver has.
Mr. Ribbing advocates more a more connected system of
paths. He then asks Longmont residents to "mark your
calendars for July 27. We need 100 bike enthusiasts to
come and show our support for safe interconnecting
paths." I assume he's talking about attending the TAB
meeting scheduled for that day.

ITEM 2: Johnny St. Vrain Column (sometime this last
week)
A writer wrote in to complain about cyclists on paths,
specifically those who audibly signal their intention
to pass pedestrians. The writer complained about
bells, calling out "on your left," and one cyclist who
had a horn. I think the writer's primary concern was
the speed and perceived aggression of the cyclists.
In response, all I can say is that in Colorado, all
trail users are required to stay to the right of the
path -- walkers, skaters, cyclists, equestrians, and
dog walkers. Cyclists are required to yield the
right-of-way to all other path users. Cyclists are
also required to give an audible signal when passing
another trail user. As a courtesy, I believe cyclists
on paths should ride slowly (5 mph or so) around other
users.

ITEM 3: Cyclist killed in Broomfield
This was reported in the _Daily Camera_ today. A
cyclist on Huron St crossing Baseline Road/SH7 was
struck by a motorist driving a Ford Focus and killed.
The cyclist was not carrying any identification and it
took the coroner several hours to identify the victim.
The Daily Camera said this was in Broomfield, but I
think this intersection is actually in Lafayette.
