BIKE TO WORK DAY-WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23!
The best day of the year is upon us! This is the day when Coloradoans
embrace healthy, clean, cheap, and quiet transportation by simply
hopping on their bikes and riding to work. Join in the fun and ride this
Wednesday. We have all the tips, maps, calendars, and links at our
website: www.BicycleColorado.org
COLORADO SAFE ROUTES BECOMES LAW
On June 5th, 30 days after passing the Legislature, the Colorado Safe
Routes to School Bill automatically became law without Governor Owens’
signature. Next BC will work with the Department of Transportation to
help craft the Safe Routes program and make funding available to Safe
Routes projects as soon as possible.

BC AND IMBA STRESS MOUNTAIN BIKING TO DC LEADERS
Bicycle Colorado recently attended IMBA’s Mountain Bike Summit near
Washington D.C. The Summit covered many topics important to mountain
bikers to ensure fun, sustainable places to ride. Can you say “sweet
scenic singletrack?” Colorado’s attendees also included COPMOBA
(Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Association), Eagle County, and BOA
(Boulder Off-road Alliance).
Bicycle Colorado helped lead the Colorado delegation lobbying on Capital
Hill. Colorado’s congressional leaders learned about the value of the
federal Recreational Trails Program and the importance of mountain
biking to the state’s residents, tourism industry, and conservation
efforts. We also asked for congress to increase funding for recreation
management on federal lands. Check out photos of Colorado mountain
bikers in action in the halls of congress at
www.BicycleColorado.org/to/Summit and IMBA’s summary at www.imba.com.
WELCOME NEW CDOT BIKE/PED COORDINATOR
We are pleased to welcome Betsy Jacobson as CDOT’s new Bicycle and
Pedestrian Coordinator. Betsy joins CDOT from her previous role leading
bicycle efforts within the City of Fort Collins’ SmartTrips office.
Betsy may be reached at betsy.jacobsen at dot.state.co.us and CDOT’s
bicycle program is on their website at www.dot.state.co.us/bikeped/
PARK-TO-PARK REGISTRATION OPENS
Reserve your spot now for Bicycle Colorado’s 5th Anniversary
Park-to-Park Bicycle Tour. On Saturday, September 11 riders will wind

paved bike paths. Join us for routes from 25 miles up to Colorado’s only
urban century. Your entry includes a commemorative T-shirt, aid stations
along the route, post-ride BBQ, festivities, and raffle. All proceeds
help make Colorado’s riding better … Much Better!
Remember-Bicycle Colorado members save $15! Sign up early as the
popularity of this event is growing and it will fill quickly. Details
and registration are at www.BicycleColorado.org/to/ParktoPark.
VOLUNTEERS MAKE IT HAPPEN
Help keep Bicycle Colorado’s wheels turning by volunteering at our
office, near the Platte and Cherry Creek bike paths in downtown Denver.
Bicycle Colorado has many opportunities for volunteers to help improve
biking in our state. Play an important role distributing Colorado
bicycle information and working with our membership program. Just a
couple hours a week makes a huge difference. More information and a
volunteer application form are at www.BicycleColorado.org/to/Volunteer
or call our volunteer coordinator Kimberly at 303-417-1544.
