[BikeLongmont] November meeting minutes

Hi,

I had two runins with vehicles in last 24 hours - yesterday night going
home from work and this morning going to work. In both cases, they were
entering Diagonal from the right and did not notice poor little me.

The guy in a minivan yesterday was at least in darkness (I am sure my
bike lights blend nicely with the river of cars in the background). The
guy in the small SUV coming out of Xilinx entry was either just not
paying attention or decided not to bother stopping.

Combination of yelling and breaking got me through in both cases, but I
took it as a sign that *really* should finally write the minutes from
the last month's meeting.

The big news is that we have new meeting place - Smart Etailing is
letting us use a conference room. They are located above High Gear - if
you look at the store front entrance, immediately to the right is a
white door leading up.

We also had an offer from Mentor Graphics for a conference room, but
decided to go go with a more central location Smart Etailing has.

My thanks to both companies for offering us the use of their facilities,
it will be much better for us than having to reserve a room every month
at the Library. Craig called every month as soon as the reservation
window becomes available, but still sometimes couldn't get a slot.

We also talked about holiday activities. There is Creek Walk 3:30-8PM on
December 18. Fun and free food (just show up early for free goodies!).

We'll participate in the city parade on December 11th - there is a
thought of showing up in our commuter gear, with light on and everything
flashing. Drop Ryan email if you are interested, or post to the list.

There was a good discussion on the Longmont bike map. Len has gathered a
positive trove of maps from various cities in the country. A lot of good
ideas there. Some of suggestions from the meeting were a copy of the map
in Spanish (Richard), map with routes for recreational riders (Ryan) and
having two maps along Boulder example - small pocket one (free) and much
larger one ($$) (Craig). We all agreed with Len that Longmont map can be
significantly improved.

Finally, Lauren will investigate what kind of packet we could assemble
to help persuade kids to ride more, along the lines discussed earlier.

Regards, Nenad
...your friendly Bicycle Longmont coordinator...
