At lunch today I was on Longmont Supply Path at 15th Avenue when I
stopped to chat with Mr. Will Fischer. Mr. Fisher is 80 years old, is
missing his right hand, and rides an old Raleigh single speed that's
substantially younger than him but it's still pretty old. He grew up in
the mountains and lives in Longmont. When he's not riding his bike, this
octogenarian spends his days riding his horse or hiking in Boulder
County open space. It sure beats wasting away in a nursing home watching
the boob tube.
I continued north to McIntosh Lake, where I noted that the new path
connecting Flanders Park and Dawson Park is open. This is a pretty nice
neighborhood. Homes along the lake have children play structures that
are worth more than my home! Construction to extend the path to the west
side of McIntosh Lake is scheduled for 2005. The Master Plan shows that,
eventually, the path will connect to the Boulder County Open Space
Agricultural Heritage Center (McIntosh Farm) on Ute Highway.
