Attention Boulder County cyclists:
This email contains an update on the County's Lefthand Canyon Roadway Overlay Project and on the 73rd/75th Street Overlay Project. Work on both projects is continuing and may impact the usability of these roads for cyclists.
* Both lanes of Lefthand Canyon Drive (Old Stage Road to the James-Canyon cutoff) will be open to traffic throughout the weekend. However, shoulder space is limited or non-existent on some sections where construction is occurring. Cyclists will need to use the driving lanes on these sections. Lane closures will continue on Lefthand Canyon during the weekdays.
* Paving along 73rd / 75th Street is expected to be completed between Niwot Road and Plateau Road by Friday, April 15. Overlay operations north of Plateau Road will commence on Monday. This section may be difficult to pass on a bicycle while resurfacing is taking place. Therefore, the County is asking cyclists to use caution and to expect uneven surfaces along sections that are under construction.
Both projects are part of the County's Bikeway Shoulders Program funded through a portion of the County-wide sales and use tax approved by voters in 2002.
Please contact Tim Swope at Boulder County Transportation (tswope at co.boulder.co.us, 720.564.2658) if you have any questions about this project or its impact on bicycle use.
