Hi,
To grow from an informal organization to a real nonprofit, we need
several things, one of which are the bylaws. Lauren has come up with an
excellent draft that was discussed in the Tuesday's meeting.
A fair part of the bylaws is more-or-less boilerplate, but other parts
define the basic structure of the organization. We really liked the way
Lauren set it up, particularly the fact that the structure is flexible
and should allow us to grow.
If you'd like to get involved in helping us take this next step, let me
know.
In other news, the city plans an employee health fair on Friday, October
7, and we have been invited to set up a booth.
We hope to do a Safe Routes to School program in Sunset this fall,
focusing on sixth graders. Central elementary is also in the works.
Finally, we talked about striping Bowen between 1st and Boston. There is
plenty of width. City is a bit reluctant to strip that section, as there
is feeling that Gay the official bike route and Bowen has not
signalization of any kind.
Unlike Gay, Bowen has no stop sign and is thus a little nicer if you are
trying to get someplace. The stop on Gay is mid-hill, which is also not
too helpful. We would like as a group to urge the city to put bike
lanes on that section of Bowen. There's no need to add yellow lines in
center, just a place for bikes. There was anyway some feeling that
yellow lines in the middle just funnel the traffic and make it faster.
We also saw Lauren's pictures from the finish of one and start of
another Tour de France stages. At the start, she caught a strategic
position at a 90-degree turn and had some excellent pictures of peloton
going by at low speed, including couple of great Lance pictures.
Administrivia: I'll be away on vacation for most of the next three weeks
(returning 9/7). The server is now backed by a uninterruptible power
supply, so hopefully the mailing list and website won't go down like the
last time I was gone.
Regards, Nenad
...your friendly Bicycle Longmont coordinator...
