First the Yikes! While riding to work today, going east on HWY 66 and crossing Main St., I was suddenly in contact with a t-post that is sticking out into the roadway. At the southeast corner of that intersection, there is a pedestrian island with a t-post that has a reflector at the top of it. Perhaps a motorist hit it and now it is bent over horizontal and sticks out into traffic. I was looking over my right shoulder to see if any traffic was coming toward me in the accel lane from Main St when I ran into this offending t-post. No injury or damage to the bike, just a wake up "Yikes!" moment. Until the city can get someone there to straighten it or replace it, be watchful. I tried unsucessfully to straighten it.
Now the good news: Continuing on my ride, I stopped in at Spangler Elementary and spoke with Mark Lubbers, Principal. He agreed to allow us to institute a Safe Routes program at Spangler. Mark is an avid cyclist and is excited about the prospect.
Along those lines, I am registered to attend Boulder's Safe Routes to School planning meeting on Saturday, January 29, and am looking forward to it. I'll keep this group updated on the outcome.
Keep the rubber side down.
