Attention Boulder County Cyclists ---------------------------------------------------

The County is currently working on two construction projects which may impact cyclists:

* Four Mile Canyon Drive - Boulder Canyon Drive to Salina: The initial paving operation on Four Mile Canyon Drive has been completed and the road is once again open to uphill bicycles. However, shoulder work on the road will continue on weekdays through Friday, July 29. The shouldering operation will build up the sides of the road to eliminate the sharp drop-off that is there now. This drop-off could pose a potential danger to cyclists during construction. Traffic will be reduced to an single lane with one-way only where construction is occurring. Cyclists are encouraged to use extreme caution and, if possible use alternative routes until construction is complete.

* Valmont Road - 57th Street to 61st Street: The reconstruction of Valmont Road is expected to continue throughout the summer and into next spring. A detour route has been constructed to carry both motor vehicles and cyclists through the construction site. However, this detour is not expected to open for at least two weeks due to unexpected delays in the construction schedule. This means that cyclists should continue to use the roadway shoulders which the construction contractor is trying to keep as clean as possible. Both eastbound and westbound shoulders will be swept this evening or early Saturday morning.

Please contact Tim Swope at Boulder County Transportation (tswope at co.boulder.co.us, 720.564.2658) if you have any questions about these projects or their impact on bicycle use.
