Richard,
I actually lived down in that part of Westminster for a while--also, Ben
Ortiz in our office lives down there (and will probably write much more
than me about this route). One thing Ben has told me is how treacherous
the US-36/Wadsworth/US-287 interchange is on a bike. There's really no
good alternatives. I can tell you that for most of that distance on
Wadsworth (US36 to about 92nd) has pretty good 10-12 foot shoulders. So
it's probably more like the Diagonal with (slightly) lower speeds and more
traffic. At 92nd Ave, Wadsworth picks up a third lane in each direction
eliminating the shoulder. There is a detached walk on both sides of
Wadsworth (which isn't so great), so I would recommend heading west at 92nd
Ave either into the neighborhoods or along through the many parking lots
for the shopping centers--a Pierson Guide map should help show the
connections (paths/local streets) to 80th & Wads. I would avoid Wadsworth
south of 92nd and would never get on Wads south of 88th Ave on a
bike--makes Hover look like a walk (bike?) in the park in comparison.
Good luck,
Phil

Somebody just sent email to the mentor address asking about commuting
to DENVER from Longmont. This guy's an experienced cyclist, just new
to the area.
The only part I really have a question about Wadsworth Parkway south
of US 36. The US36 TMO map and the DBTC Denver map show a "Primary
Bike Path" along Wadsworth, but I imagine this is a sidewalk in
reality. The maps also show a bike path for a couple of miles along
Wadsworth.
How bikeable is Wadsworth down to 80th Avenue? I'm picturing something
like Hover, but busier.
Thanks all!
RFM
