Great idea, Ray!
Speaking of Bike To Work Day(BTWD), Audrey DeBarros is a real, live
marketing guru. She currently is marketing director at the US36 TMO.
She organized Bike To Work Day activities in Boulder for a couple of
years, and last year she did a lot of the BTWD planning for DRCOG. And
now........ she is putting time and effort into helping Longmont plan
our Bike to Work Day activities! (much applause, standing ovation,
ceiling collapses from the noise of celebration..) You guys won't
believe what a lifesaver she is. She is the Kung Fu Mistress of BTWD,
and she is OUR FRIEND. Somebody should buy her roses or a new car or
something for the effort she's putting in.
Audrey and I have been planning in earnest this week. She'll be
beating the streets and making a lot of phone calls over the next
several days to get shwag and publicity. Our goal this year is to make
the Civic Center Breakfast station a *huge* deal -- it will likely be
the only breakfast station in town. We're talking pancakes and eggs
and bacon.
I'll provide much more detail later, but a lot of this will require
MONEY. I'll be pitching in at least a couple hundred dollars myself,
but we're going to need more than that to do it up right. I'm pleading
with you, my biking brethren and sisterns, give to the Buzz Box until
it hurts. Give until you bleed. Sell your stock options before the
whole economy tanks from high oil prices and you lose your job. Sell
your car now while it's still worth something and give. Give now while
you can.
I'll have a budget worked out in a couple of weeks to let you know how
much we need. The goal is to make this a big deal so that NEXT year we
can show our accomplishments to potential sponsors. They'll be so
incredibly impressed by our efforts and achievements that they will
literally THROW money at us next year. Dave Swenson will be able to
get Team Discovery to sign autographs -- maybe Lance Almighty himself
will show up. We'll have nationwide media coverage. We'll all be
famous and rich and riding Trek Madones on our daily commutes!
But it cannot happen unless you can give today. It all start with you,
sacrificing for the cause. Won't you please give to the Buzz Box?
[doe-eyed llittle child with single tear streaking down face looking
up to you and stretching out her cupped hands]
