Hello everyone .

At the last Bicycle Longmont meeting I gave a brief update on the new
bicycling facilities that are likely to be recommended to the city by the
Multi Modal transportation task force. Nenad asked me to post the
information to this list so that all of us can get excited! We had our last
Multi Modal committee meeting last night, so the following information is as
up-to-date as possible.

In terms of the Multi Modal process, the sequence of things to come is as
follows:

Last Public Input meeting - 13 April

Review by Transportation Advisory Board - May, June?

Submission to City Council for possible action - June, July?

The following bicycle related projects are recommended to the city in the
draft plan as it currently exists. Please note that the actual completion
of these projects will depend upon successful completion of the above three
reviews and finding the required $$.

Off Street Bikeway NE of Alpine and Hwy 66. This is a short connection
between a yet-to-be built city park and the new Wal-Mart commercial area.

On Street Bikeways connecting Pace on the North and 119th St on the South to
the new FasTracks station at the Sugar Mill.

Bike/Ped underpass of railroad at Sugar Mill FasTracks station.

On Street bikeway on Pratt Parkway (0.5 miles)

On Street bikeway on Francis St. between 17th Ave and Hwy 66 (1.0 miles).

On Street bikeway on widened 9th Ave from Airport Rd. to Coffman St. (2.7
miles).

Bike/Ped underpass of railroad on 9th Ave.

Off Street bikeway from Airport Road to Pella Ponds (0.9 miles). This will
follow the railroad right of way.

Off Street bikeway from Twin Peaks mall to Sunset St. (0.3 miles).

Bike/Ped under/over pass of Hover at Twin Peaks Mall (Yes!)

Bike/Ped under/over pass of 119 near Pike (Yes! Yes!!!)

Off Street bikeway aligned with Pike from 119 to Hover (0.1 miles).

In addition to the above recommended projects, there are several other bike
projects that are presently coded as "maybe".

I'm excited about the above possibilities. If you are as well, please come
to the public comment session on 13 April to voice your support and
enthusiasm. This meeting will be in the evening, most likely at the Senior
Center. I will post another notice with exact time and location when
available. Note that in addition to bicycling, the plan will also include
elements for pedestrians, public transit and roadways. You may also want to
offer your opinions in those areas. Hope to see you all there!

          . Craig
