[BikeLongmont] City of Longmont Bike Registration

I got a new road bike this year and decided to register it with the City of
Longmont. It is a free service and is supposed to help the recovery rate in
the event of theft. Went to the police station and gave them the
particulars on the bike and my contact info and they gave me a numbered
sticker for the bike in return. So far, so good. The woman there told me
to attach the sticker to the seatpost of the bike. That is their preferred
position. I told her that I change seatposts from time to time and that a
thief can EASILY remove the seatpost from the bike leaving it without any
registration ID. Instead, I attached the sticker to the back of the seat
tube right below the seatpost, which seemed much more sensible to me. Am I
missing something or is there a good reason for putting it on the seatpost?
If there is consensus, perhaps Bike Longmont can suggest that the City
change their preferred location for the sticker.
